Vulcan Hits the Dirt: A Win and Two Silvers at the Lewis Morris Challenge

The dirt was calling! Vulcan riders traded cyclocross tape for mountain bike singletrack on June 20 at the Lewis Morris Challenge in Morristown, NJ — a round of the A.C. Daughtry Security H2H Series held on the classic “LewMo” course at Lewis Morris County Park. Raced on these trails since 1992, the course is one of the hilliest in the series: a constantly undulating mix of singletrack, roots, and fire roads where riders are almost always either climbing or descending.

Cat 3 Men JR 10–14 – Dylan Duerk
Dylan Duerk led the way with a brilliant win! He blazed around the LewMo course in 32:08 to take the top step in the Cat 3 Junior Men 10–14 field, putting nearly seven minutes into the rest of his category. A dominant ride and a fantastic way to end the mountain bike season.

Endurance Women – Tamara Warner
Tamara Warner took on one of the toughest tests on the calendar — the Endurance race — and rose to the occasion with a fantastic 2nd-place finish. Grinding through more than three hours of relentless climbing and descending (3:13:39 on the day), she showed the kind of staying power few riders can match. An incredible ride over brutal terrain.

Cat 3 Junior Women 10–14 – Nora Phillips
Nora Phillips kept her hot streak rolling on the dirt, racing to 2nd place in the Cat 3 Junior Women 10–14 field. Fresh off a standout cyclocross season, Nora proved her speed carries straight over to the mountain bike, attacking the rooty, rolling LewMo course with confidence.

Endurance Men – Marc-Edouard Boudreault
Racing in his Princeton Progressions colors but every bit a part of the Vulcan family, Marc-Edouard Boudreault went the distance in the grueling Endurance Men race, finishing 9th after more than two and a half hours on the bike (2:55:34). A gutsy effort on a punishing course.
